Lifestyle and travel recognizing body Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia recognizes the Philippines’ Shangri-La Boracay with the Best Hotel Pools reward during the Travel+Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific event at Park Hyatt Bangkok, Thailand. The lifestyle event featured and awarded travel destinations worldwide, aiming to celebrate the destinations, hotels, and experiences that make the Asia Pacific outstanding in the hospitality industry.

Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Macau hosted this tourism event for the first time last June 5.

The winners of these travel awards, including Boracay’s very own Shangri-La Hotel, were chosen through a readers’ survey where people from across the globe could cast their votes. The voting process commenced in March and April of 2023. Based on the voting survey, ranks were rewarded in the Top 5 and Top 10 listicle formats, varying in category and destination.

Other lifestyle spots in the Philippines which also bagged awards together with Shangri-La Boracay or the Philippines’ five-star hotel in Boracay, are Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila as among Best City Hotels, Banwa Private Island among the best Beach, Island or Upcountry Resorts, The Farm at San Benito for the Best Hotel General Managers award and Best Hotel Spas.

Palawan and Boracay are also among the Top Destinations under the category of Islands, along with Bali, Indonesia, Phuket, Thailand, Langkawi, Malaysia, Koh Samui, Thailand, Penang, Malaysia, Phu Quoc, Vietnam, Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.

Like Shangri-La Boracay of the Philippines, there are also other Southeast Asian countries and world-renowned spots recognized by the body, including Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, South Pacific, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Sri Lanka.

Jeninne Lee-St. John, the Editor-in-Chief of Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia, Hong and Macau, says the event aims to ‘celebrate breaking boxes and boundaries, forward-thinking innovation, and next-generation luxury’. [1] St. John thanks the audience and the top-level hoteliers for their ‘clairvoyant service that gives guests what they want before they know [what] to ask and offers what they’ll love before they’ve ever had a taste of it.’

The CEO of BurdaLuxury, Björn Rettig, also expressed his thrill and excitement during the event. He says they proudly showcase all these exceptional travel destinations and experiences that define Asia’s hospitality landscape. The organization is also looking forward to launching more initiatives, such as awards and events that celebrate luxury travel in the region.
